Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah cut the ribbon on the new causeway bridge in Karachi on 26th Jan 2026. For years, this area has been swallowed by monsoon waves, cutting the city in two. That era ended with a plaque unveiling.

The Chief Minister highlighted that this bridge isn’t just asphalt; it is a strategic link. He noted that nearly five million people will use this path daily. This includes thousands of workers heading to the Korangi and Landhi industrial areas. It also provides a clear, high-speed corridor for ambulances moving toward Indus Hospital and SIUT.

Technical Features of the New Causeway Bridge Karachi

The Korangi Causeway bridge spans 1.4 kilometers and stretches 26 meters wide. It features six lanes—three on each side—to handle heavy traffic without the old bottlenecks.

Construction took roughly 18 months. Despite design delays, the Sindh government prioritized this “flood-proof” design. Unlike the old road, this elevated bridge remains operational even during the heaviest rains. This prevents the 30% production loss industrial sectors previously faced during floods.

Future Links and Traffic Impact

Traffic flow at Qayyumabad and Jam Sadiq Bridge should improve immediately. This project includes grade-separated interchanges and loops to prevent merging conflicts.
